Summer in Austin is special. Mexican food, live music, margaritas on porches and 100+ degree heat define it for me. On the first stop on the Beer Adventure, I went to Guerro’s on South Congress. The place is more known for their margaritas and food and not so much for their beer, but it’s still summer so its a great place to go. After a required margarita, we tried a beer called Bohemia. Knowing nothing about it, we asked the waiter what kind of beer it was. He said it was a dark beer. It was not. Not at all, actually. But it was still pretty good.
It was a Mexican beer that was a little citrusy but not too citrusy. It reminded me of a Mexican version of Blue Moon.

I would like to make a toast to everyone who has ever tried a drink and absolutely hated it. We’ve all been there. It’s awkward, you sort of feel like a jerk, and worst of all, you have a drink you don’t want.
I have that problem with a lot of beer. Wait! Don’t run away. I do like beer. Just wanted to get that straight. I’m just rather picky. I think my main problem is that I don’t really know much about beer, so I have a difficult time picking ones I like. Over the years, I’ve narrowed my tastes down to a few very generic categories (dark and darker), but in the end, I don’t really know why I like them, and I don’t branch out very often. That’s all about to change.
So here’s to new trying new things, spending time with good friends, broadening beer horizons, finding some new hangouts, and maybe even learning a little bit along the way.
